Program Information

Overview

Air Cadets is an organization for youth between the ages of 12 and 19.  The three aims of the air cadet program are to:

      Develop leadership and good citizenship;

      Promote physical fitness; and

      Stimulate an interest in the aviation industry and the air, land and sea elements of the Canadian Forces.

There is no cost associated with joining the Air Cadet program.

All mandatory training activities and most optional activities are delivered at no cost to the cadet.  A uniform is issued and on loan to the cadet during their time in the program and must be returned upon completion or leaving for other reasons.

699 Squadron is very active throughout the training year participating in many extra activities such as the Battle of Britain Parade, Remembrance Day Ceremonies, community activities such as Santa's Anonymous, poppy sales, and community events. Other activities may be tours of Alberta, the Edmonton International Airport, the Alberta Legislature, and the very popular weekend Field Training Exercises (Bush Camps).

Aviation Training Days (including airport/aircraft tours and glider flights) take place once a year and power flying flights in small fixed wing planes.

The program is implemented through the support of a number of different organizations including the Department of National Defence/Canadian Forces and the Air Cadet League of Canada.  The training at 699 Squadron is implemented by qualified staff that are either Canadian Forces Reservists in the Cadet Instructors Cadre or appropriately trained and screened civilian instructors and volunteers.

699 Squadron is supported by a very dedicated Parents Committee that helps organize and plan activities for cadets, including fundraising activities.  All parents of cadets are invited and encouraged to attend meetings and familiarize themselves with the Parents' Association at 699 Squadron.
